8 Hour Race Description

Have you ever wanted to test your limits, combine your love of gravel riding northern Virginia with some trail navigation and hills?  Do you like the winter and enjoy the views of the Shenandoah ridges without shrubbery?  The Frozen Foot adventure race is for you.  This adventure race is a combination of gravel bicycle ride and trek, navigating Sky Meadows State Park, local wineries, and beyond.   The 8 hour course will be easily cleared in less than 6 hours if you navigate well without getting lost and should be a challenge for those relatively new to the sport. Come enjoy a day of adventure with amazing people in one of the Virginia State Park system's hidden jewels.   And remember, don't let your feet get wet, or they will freeze!

4 Hour Race Description

8 Hour Race Estimated Distance (Sell Out is 70 Racers)

25-40 miles (Racers have 8 hours to get as many checkpoints possible and cross the finish line)
Estimated Distance = 7+ Miles of Trekking & 20+ Miles of Biking.  Difficulty is 7 on a scale of 1-10. Experienced racers that want to try to clear the course in 6 hours.  A good opening 2023 season shake out.

8 Hour Registration Fees

Soloist 8 Hour

  • $170.00 for soloists until registration closes at midnight February 4th, 2023​

  • $185.00 for soloists until registration closes at midnight March 4th, 2023​
     

Teams 8 Hour (2, 3 & 4 Person Team Options Available)​

  • $150.00 for per person until registration closes at midnight February 4th, 2023

  • $165.00 for per person until registration closes at midnight March 4th, 2023

16-25 miles.  4 on a scale of 1-10 (First time adventure racers will be challenged.  This is for beginner to intermediate racers with no major mountains to climb). 
Estimated Distances: 4+ miles of trekking & 16+ miles of Biking.

8 Hour Course

7 on a scale of 1-10 (Experienced racers that want to try to clear their first course) 35-45 miles

15+ miles of Biking and 7+ miles or Trekking.
 

4 Hour Course

4 on a scale of 1-10 (First time adventure racers will be challenged.  This is for beginner to intermediate racers with no major mountains to climb) 12-16 miles
Beginner\Intermediate mountain biking, 3\6 miles of road\gravel\trail biking and 4\6 miles of trekking.
 

Race Schedule of Events

  • March 10, 2023 - Early Packet Pick-up 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm at Sky Meadows State Park - Turner Pond Entrance

  • March 11, 2023 - Race Day Packet Pick-up is 7:45 am - 8:45 am at Sky Meadows State Park - Turner Pond Entrance
    Race Day Itinerary: 

  • 7:30 am: Transition area opens at SMSP by the REV3 Trailer - Turner Pond Entrance

  • 7:45 am: Race Day Check-In (You must check-in at least 1 hour before your race)

  • 9:00 am: 4 & 8 Hour Pre-race brief (Mandatory for all team captains) (4 & 8 Hour Racers)

  • 9:30 am: 4 & 8 Hour Race Starts (4 & 8 Hour Adventure Race from Sky Meadows State Park)

  • 1:30 pm: 4 hour Racers must be off the course

  • 1:45 pm: 4 Hour Racer Awards or rolling awards for early finisher

  • 5:30 pm: 8 Hour Racers must be off the course

  • 5:45 pm: 8 Hour Racer Awards ceremony or rolling awards for early finishers

Race Packet Pickup

Packet pickup location will be at Sky Meadows State Park – Turner Pond Entrance. https://goo.gl/maps/TgoM9z1WuwYrcg1k7 It is required that all forms be completely filled out and signed  for each member of your team.  You will get your race t-shirt, race map, Rules of Travel and race bib numbers at packet pick-up. There will be a $10.00 parking fee on race day for each car.  Please bring cash for the parking fee.

Equipment Provided By Rev3Endurance

Race maps, race passport and Rules of Travel (ROT) will be provided by REV3Endurance in your packet.

Mandatory Equipment (Responsibility of each team and\or Racer)

REV3Endurance will not be checking in mandatory equipment. REV3Endurance will be checking randomly throughout the race for mandatory equipment.  Missing mandatory equipment will result in points being deducted from your total score.
 

Mandatory Equipment

​

REV3Endurance will not be checking in mandatory equipment but it’s really on you to remain safe.  This equipment is for your own safety and self rescue, and HIGHLY encouraged.  

  • ​Enough food and water for the event

  • UTM Plotter for 8 hour Race – and brush up your plotting knowledge!

  • Bike (gravel, MTB, hybrid, recumbent, unicycle, but no E bikes!)

  • Bike Helmet, Bike Lights, Bike repair (tube, plugs, pump, mini tool, chain link, etc.)

  • Clothing appropriate for weather conditions

  • Cell phone fully charged

  • Dry bag for your cell phone

  • Outside maps are allowed if you want!  Electronic maps are discouraged but not illegal.  This is your race, get out of it what you want.

Transitions

You will be going through transition at various times in the race to resupply.  There is potable water on one of the trek sections and plenty of flowing water that you can treat in the bike section.

Post-Race Food

We do provide sweet and salty snacks and drinks at the finish line.  Please feel free to bring beverages and snacks with you.

Camping

There is primitive hike in camping at SMSP and all reservations are the responsibility of participants to obtain.  The camping area is in the middle of the trek section and a haul from the start/finish/packet pickup.

Results

Unofficial results will be announced at the awards ceremony and post-race official results will be posted to our website 24 – 48 hours after the event.
